The science behind Tikva
Tikva is not opinion. It is a method grounded in 15 behavior change science domains, 50 reviewed meta-analyses, and 5 identity transformation mechanisms validated by decades of research.

The question that guided the research
Tikva was born from an ambitious question: "What are the most evidence-backed scientific frameworks for helping a person change their mindset and become who they want to be — and how do we translate them into the mechanics of a digital app?"
To answer it, we conducted a Rapid Evidence Assessment across 15 scientific domains — from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to the Transtheoretical Model, from Self-Determination Theory to Narrative Psychology. The result is TikvaCore: an integrated model of identity transformation through digital intervention.
Why this matters
Most mental health, habit or finance apps treat the symptom: "eat less," "spend less," "meditate more." Tikva goes to the root: the identity that produces those behaviors. Science shows that lasting change does not come from checklists — it comes from becoming the kind of person who naturally acts differently. That is the difference between fixing a behavior and transforming a life.
The 15 Scientific Domains
Each domain contributes a specific change mechanism. No single framework solves the problem — the power is in the integration.
The 5 Transformation Mechanisms
The analysis revealed that identity transformation is powered by 5 interconnected mechanisms that reinforce each other. They form the Identity Transformation Stack — the backbone of Tikva.
Autonomous Motivation
STRONGThe person acts because they want to, not because they have to. Motivation is internalized — aligned with personal values and identity. Without this, any effort collapses when external pressure fades.
Self-Efficacy & Agency
STRONGThe person believes they are capable of acting and that their actions produce results. Without self-efficacy, motivation turns into frustration. Agency is built through small wins that prove competence.
Psychological Flexibility
STRONGThe ability to feel discomfort without running from it. Difficult thoughts, urges and negative emotions do not disappear — but the person learns to act despite them, toward what they value.
Behavioral Automaticity
MODERATE-STRONGRepeated behaviors become automatic — they require less conscious effort. But automaticity only sticks when anchored in identity. Without that foundation, the habit collapses at the first crisis.
Identity Internalization
MODERATEThe final destination of transformation. The person does not "diet" — they become someone who takes care of their body. They do not "control spending" — they become someone who has mastery over money. Identity absorbs the behavior.
Evidence Standard
Scientific evidence was classified into 4 levels, adapted from the GRADE system and the NICE Evidence Standards Framework (UK):
Multiple meta-analyses with consistent effects, total N > 5,000, acceptable I². E.g. digital CBT, ACT, Self-Efficacy.
At least 1 meta-analysis or multiple quality RCTs, N > 1,000. E.g. WOOP/MCII, Habit Formation, Identity-Based BC.
Available but heterogeneous evidence, small N or few digital-format studies. E.g. digital MI for behavior change.
Solid theoretical base but few empirical digital studies. E.g. Narrative Identity in apps, digital Identity Fusion.
What the research proved
No single framework solves identity transformation. Integrating multiple mechanisms is what produces lasting change.
Well-designed digital interventions (with explicit BCTs, personalization and real-time feedback) achieve effects comparable to face-to-face interventions.
The main gap is not app engagement — it is internalizing the values behind the behavior. The user needs to want to, not just do.
The TTM + CBT combination (Tikva's current foundation) is solid. Adding Identity Scaffolding + Autonomous Motivation Engine + Psychological Flexibility Training multiplies transformation potential.
The question "Who do you want to become?" is the most powerful trigger for lasting change — and science backs this up.
Frequently asked questions about the methodology
Is Tikva therapy?
No. Tikva uses evidence-based techniques from CBT, ACT and the Transtheoretical Model, but it is an educational and behavioral training tool — it does not replace psychological, medical, nutritional or financial support.
Who conducted the TikvaCore research?
The TikvaCore research was conducted internally by the Tikva team using the academic-research-skills pipeline — a literature review system that integrates 15 scientific domains with evidence quality assessment. The full research is available for consultation.
How is Tikva different from other behavior apps?
Most apps treat the symptom (habit checklists, calorie counters, generic goals). Tikva goes to the root: identity. Instead of "build the habit of spending less," Tikva asks "who do you want to become?" and structures a complete Journey for you to become that person — with tools for every stage of change.
What is the evidence level of the Tikva method?
Tikva is built on frameworks with decades of scientific validation. CBT has a STRONG evidence level with over 400 RCTs. The Transtheoretical Model is MODERATE-STRONG. Integrating these frameworks in digital format is an innovation — and the evidence for theory-informed digital interventions is consistently positive.
